The Spike ’ s Challenge C-2 rush featured 76 teams this class, 69 in the Expert I Class and seven in the Expert II Class. The race begins in Grayling at the Old AuSable Fly Shop and ends at McMasters Bridge .
Dean and Willoughby reached the ending line in 2:35:00, 10 seconds ahead of Matt Meersman and Jorden Wakeley. According to Spike ’ mho Challenge time charts, Dean and Willoughby led by one second at Burton ’ sulfur Landing, Stephan Bridge, and Wakeley Bridge. They were able to gain a little bit of legal separation recently in the race .
“ It was a neck and neck race the hale way, ” Willoughby said. “ Just about 10 minutes before the end was when we got a little snatch of daylight, and it wasn ’ thymine a lot. ”

The 2021 Spike ’ sulfur Challenge featured the thirtieth C-2 race in the event ’ second history. Spike ’ s Keg ‘ O ’ Nails started the Spike ’ sulfur Challenge C-2 race in 1991 as a light, day version of the AuSable River Canoe Marathon, a 120-mile race from Grayling to Oscoda. Many AuSable Marathon paddlers compete in the Spike ’ randomness Challenge, using it as a warm-up subspecies.
