Please take note of the following details for the 2023 departures:

  • Group Size: 4-14
  • Single Supplement: This tour offers a single supplement option, guaranteeing a single room throughout the tour.
  • Fitness: Exploring Japan often involves walking between sights, climbing temple steps, and staying active throughout the day. To fully enjoy our Small Group Tours, it is recommended to have moderate fitness levels, be comfortable with walking and climbing stairs, and maintain a pace that suits the group. Don’t forget to bring sturdy walking shoes for the journey.
  • Check-in: Rooms at the Kyoto hotel are available from 3 pm, allowing you enough time to securely store your luggage at the front desk if you arrive earlier. The tour leader will be present at the first hotel two nights before the tour starts, offering any necessary advice. Consider booking an extra night to settle in and relax before the tour begins.
  • Transport: Throughout the tour, we will utilize various modes of transportation, including a private mini-bus for travel to and from Mount Koya, ferry rides, and Japan’s excellent train network. While most accommodation locations are conveniently close to train stations, please be prepared to carry your bags for short distances. Some stations may not have escalators or elevators/lifts.
  • Luggage: To ensure a more enjoyable stay, we recommend packing reasonably light. Large suitcases can be inconvenient during the trip. Opt for a small case with wheels or a sturdy backpack. Remember to bring a small overnight backpack for up to two nights when we forward our main bags to the next location.
  • Accommodation: In Japan, communal bathing is a common practice. Please note that some traditional accommodations may not offer fully private en suite facilities. We will make every effort to secure rooms with private toilets and sinks, but shared bathing facilities (separated by gender) might be necessary in some cases. During our stay in Mount Koya, we will experience a temple lodging where baths are shared (single-sex), and toilets are not attached to the rooms. Furthermore, please keep in mind that Twin rooms are more prevalent in Japan, and availability of Double rooms may be limited.
  • International Flights: The tour starts and concludes in Kyoto, with arrival and departures at Osaka Kansai or Itami airports.
